Gokarna Beach Trek by Team Parikrama!

A Trail of Sun, Sand, and Serenity!

Gokarna, often called the less commercialized cousin of Goa, is a coastal paradise nestled in the southwestern part of Karnataka. For us, it’s more than a destination — it’s a feeling. A quiet, peaceful escape far from the crowd, noise, and commercial chaos. A place where time slows down and every sunset feels personal.

Home to sacred temples, sleepy beach towns, and an extraordinary coastline that blends seamlessly with the Western Ghats, Gokarna is where mountains meet the sea. What makes it even more special? The beaches here are **interconnected by scenic treks**, offering a unique way to experience Gokarna on foot, one beach at a time.

We've hosted hundreds of people on this trail, and every single time, it’s a new adventure — different sunsets, waves, and stories that stay with us long after the trip ends.

How to Reach Gokarna?

- By Road: Gokarna is well-connected by buses from major cities like Bengaluru (485 km), Mangalore (235 km), and Goa (145 km).

- By Train: Gokarna Road (Station code: GOK) is the nearest railway station, about 10 km from the town.

- By Air: The nearest airport is Goa, around 140 km away.

Once in Gokarna, all these beaches are within trekking distance or a short auto ride from the main Gokarna city/town center.

Sunset from the stay!

1. Mid Beach/Kariyappa Katte – For the Wandering Soul

Tucked away from the religious hustle and bustle, Mid Beach is where you find fellow travelers, cozy campsites, small shack cafés, and a long strip of golden sand that invites you to pause and just breathe.

It’s a beach where you can truly walk in silence and hear your thoughts. A great start for those who want to ease into the coastal trail of Gokarna.

2. Main Beach – Culture Meets Chaos

The most visited beach in town, Main Beach, is located near the heart of Gokarna and is frequently visited by pilgrims. It’s common to witness religious rituals and cremations here, especially during festival days.

You’ll also find:

- Camel rides

- Local water sports

- Souvenir stalls

- The famous **Mahabaleshwara Temple** nearby

About Mahabaleshwara Temple:

Known as Srikshetra Gokarna, this is one of the holiest temples in India. It houses the Atmalinga, believed to be the form of Lord Shiva himself. The temple sits right on the shore and adds a spiritual vibe to your visit.

3. Kudle Beach & Kudle Cliff – Sunset’s Favourite Spot

A short trek or auto ride from Main Beach leads you to Kudle Beach — a wide, curved beach surrounded by palm trees and hippie cafés. It’s relatively less crowded, making it a great spot to relax.

Climb up Kudle Cliff for a panoramic view of the sea, and if you’re lucky, you might spot dolphins playing in the water below. Kudle is especially magical during sunset hours.

4. Om Beach – Nature’s Sacred Design

Perhaps the most iconic beach in Gokarna, Om Beach is named after its unique shape resembling the sacred ‘ॐ’ symbol.

The beach has a mix of rocky patches and long sandy stretches, making it perfect for both relaxing and indulging in adventure.

5. Half Moon Beach – The Hidden Gem

True to its name, Half Moon Beach is shaped like a crescent moon. With crystal-clear waters and fewer crowds, it’s ideal for a quiet swim or beach games.

What makes it special?

- Accessible only by trek or boat

- No shops, no noise — just waves and wide smiles

- A perfect picnic spot after a scenic trek from Om Beach

6. Paradise Beach – For Those Who Seek Silence

Located at the end of the beach trail, Paradise Beach is the most secluded of them all. There are no big cafés or water sports here, just a patch of paradise where you can truly disconnect.

You’ll either have to trek or take a boat to reach this beach, but the reward is well worth the effort — untouched sands, hammocks, and peace like never before.

7. Belekan Beach – The Beach Next to the Forest

Ever heard of Belekan Beach, and do you know what its name means? Probably not on Google’s top list — but trust us, it’s a local secret.

Our friend, who runs a quaint little homestay here (don’t miss their neer dosa), told us that:

> “Bele” means beach, and “Kanana” means forest — making it the beach by the forest.

Located on the outskirts of Gokarna town, it’s one of the best sunrise spots and can also be the starting point of our beach trek.
